We begin month 5, which is good, cuz last month was horrible. Culture shock set in and the job hasn't panned out to what it promised. This is not to say that now it has; quite not. More "peripheral" tasks have been dumped on me, most recently TDS...tax reports. I got a D in accounting in high school and they want me to organize taxes. Oiy.
And they have me cold calling for consulting services. Now, when I sold life insurance I did some cold calling, but people knew what insurance was, even if they didn't understand it. Here, people have no clue what conflict management is, so selling it coldly is....cold. And I hate it. One-on-one I can do it....not over the phone. Hopefully it won't be for long. I'll this phase one week, then I'll start pouting.
As for not doing what is in my contract, I'm giving that 3 months...max until December. If nothing changes....I'll just not renew my visa. But I don't think that will happen.
As for India...what was Columbus thinking? Why did he want to come here...with all the horns honking...
It hasn't gotten any better, although I think I'm ignoring more of it (horns...not so much, psychotic crows, mad chipmunks, and street vendors). Walking to work amplifies the annoyance. At least the weather is better. Very pleasant now...the rains have bypassed us by (just for you ma). Everyday it looks like rain, but it goes away. Soon it should pour.
I met a couple of Iranian women the other night at a party. Interesting to hear their slant about the U.S. Also met two brothers from the Netherlands, who were excited about their team in EuroCup...until they lost. D'oh!
The Indian culture wouldn't be so bad if the job were better, but for now they both are under-par. Hopefully one or both will improve.
