It's been almost a week since being back in India. They say in order to appreciate bangalore one must leave it, then come back. They're full of crap. Someone asked me the other day what one thing do I like about Bangalore. My response was "its location", meaning its proximity to other parts of the region. Which is nice, but it highlights what Bangalore isn't. There was an article about how the cows are dieing in the streets (yes, streets) b/c they are eating plastic bags. So, in typical India problem solving fashion, they passed a law that required all plastic bags to be made thicker. Yep, thicker. The idea is that the trash "collectors" will pick up the thicker bags b/c they are more valuable to recycle. Presto, the plastic bags will be picked up. But they aren't and the thin bags are still being produced, cows are still dieing. Typical India problem solving. "Don't study the problem or brainstorm solutions. Pass a law to make other people responsible." Backwards to say the least.
My advice....if you have a chance to buy stock in an Indian company...don't. India's greatest resource is ignorance (cheap labor, plenty of it, no questions asked).
This is my fourth month, which they say is when culture shock really kicks in. It has, to be sure. We'll see how things progress....

Wow. If Indian companies are that bad, why is their economy booming while the US is in a recession? Why do 4 of the world's 10 richest people belong to that developing country? I wish I had bought stock in an Indian company, at least I wouldn't be weeping on Wall Street.
Just because you were privileged to be born in a great developed country doesn't mean you should look down upon other cultures that have faced oppression for hundreds of years.
